Men's Basketball (8-18, 5-17) Slips at Southern New Hampshire in Season Finale
The Saint Michael's College men's basketball team was 0-1 last week, falling in Northeast-10 Conference action at Southern New Hampshire University, 65-51, on Tuesday in its final game of the season.
Senior Derek Knutty (Rocklin, Calif./Whitney) posted 11 points and 15 rebounds while becoming the 48th Purple Knight to appear in 100 career games. Ten of Knutty's 15 boards came on the offensive glass. Sophomore James Cambronne (De Bary, Fla./The Winchendon School) added 14 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks, finishing the year with the seventh-highest single-season block total in program history (43) and moving into a tie for seventh in career rejections (85) with Todd Roberts '01. Classmate Mike Thompson (Rosedale, N.Y./Christ The King Regional) snagged a career-best 15 rebounds to go along with nine points and three assists, first-year Greg Grippo (Edison, N.J./Rutgers Prep) recorded 12 points, and senior John Reiser (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) had a pair of steals.
Women's Basketball (10-16, 8-14) Suffers Season-Ending Setback at Southern New Hampshire
The Saint Michael's College women's basketball team went 0-1 last week, dropping a 70-58 decision to Southern New Hampshire University in its season finale on Tuesday in Northeast-10 Conference play.
Senior Megan Olsen (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) notched her fifth career 20-point game, scoring exactly 20 to reach 700 for her career. Olsen also added four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Junior Alexa Long (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) finished with 12 points, six boards, two blocks and two steals. Senior Nicole Adach (Schenectady, N.Y./Mohonasen) scored nine points, including a 4-for-4 showing on free throws, to reach 1,045 career points and finish her career 15th in program history, passing Kim Corey '84 and Margaret Lynch '85, who each had 1,039 points. Junior Cara Deroy (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) tallied eight points, four rebounds and three steals, and senior Kayla Carnell (Burlington, Mass./Burlington) controlled four boards.
Men's Tennis (1-3, 1-2) Falls at Saint Lawrence in Non-Conference Match
The Saint Michael's College men's tennis team lost its only decision last week, falling at Saint Lawrence University, 9-0, in a non-conference match on Sunday. In doubles action, senior Eric Parziale (Pinehurst, N.C./Pinecrest) and junior Nick Bosco (Glastonbury, Conn./East Catholic) came closest to taking a team point, suffering an 8-5 defeat from the No. 1 slot. Sophomores Michael Matczak (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) and Billy Wood (Wayne, Pa./Home Schooled) grabbed three games at the third doubles position. Two Purple Knights narrowly dropped their opening sets during singles play. Parziale lost his opening set at No. 1, 6-4, during an eventual loss, and Bosco fell, 7-5, in his opening set before losing at No. 2.
