Student Association Athlete of the Week: Dave Donzanti

The Student Association and the Athletic Department are continuing the tradition of recognizing an outstanding student-athlete from the campus community as “Athlete of the Week.” If you'd like to nominate a student-athlete, contact Chris Moskal at

In his first season with the Ice Knights, Dave Donzanti grew a lot as a player and as a teammate. He played the role of backup goalie behind Mike Dizgun and Eric McGuirk. Donzanti kept a positive mindset and brought a fun and energetic attitude to the locker room.

Starting his sophomore year playing for a new coach, Donzanti was aware that his role would be similar this season now that Dizgun and McGuirk are in their senior year. However, when head coach Damian Digiulian gave him his first start against SUNY Canton in a home contest, Donzanti played an inspired game and posted a shutout in his first collegiate performance.

“He is a really exciting goalie to watch,” said Rich Rodeschini, a senior on the men’s ice hockey team. “Donz works hard every practice and is always looking to improve in net. He plays with a confidence and swagger that positively affects the rest of the team."

In his second appearance, Donzanti held Skidmore College to only one goal. His quick glove and steady play gave the Ice Knights their best chance at a win against Skidmore in the last three years.

With two senior goalies graduating at the end of this season, they will leave knowing that the Ice Knights are in good hands with Dave Donzanti between the pipes.
