Two dozen Saint Michael's student-athletes complete study-abroad experiences in 2011-12

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Nearly one quarter of the Saint Michael's College students who studied abroad during the 2011-12 school year were also Purple Knight student-athletes, as 24 among the 105 who took advantage of the opportunity through the College's Study Abroad Office donned Purple and Gold during the academic year:

Women's Cross Country

  • junior Andi Nelson (Lebanon, N.H./Lebanon) - Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (spring) - took part in six races, including finishing a season-best 22nd on Oct. 14 at the Saint Michael's Invitational

Field Hockey

  • junior Julia Heald (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Brady) - Gold Coast, Australia (spring) - appeared in all 18 games, making 17 starts, while adding an assist
  • junior Kelly MacDonald (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) - Barcelona, Spain (spring) - saw time in all 18 games, scoring two goals
  • junior Hali Roy (South Pomfret, Vt./Woodstock Union) - Grenoble, France (spring) - started all 18 games on defense, netted two goals and adding four assists

Women's Ice Hockey

  • junior Melissa Hallisey (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) - Hyderabad, India (fall) - appeared in 16 games upon mid-season return
  • junior Chrissy Skrzat (Lansdale, Pa./Boston Shamrocks) - Cape Town, South Africa (fall) - saw time in nine contests

Women's Lacrosse

  • junior Amy Forshay (Boxboro, Mass./Acton-Boxboro Regional) - Dakar, Senegal (fall) - played in 12 games, including making four starts
  • junior Kait Newdorf (Auburn, N.H./Manchester Memorial) - Grenoble, France (fall) - did not appear in a game

Nordic Skiing

  • junior Katlyn Keane (Bethel, Maine/Telstar Regional) - Quito, Ecuador (fall) & Santiago, Chile (spring) - after studying abroad in the fall, competed in first three carnivals of the season prior to leaving for spring study-abroad trip

Men's Soccer

  • junior Nick Colangelo (Hampstead, N.C./Topsail) - Gold Coast, Australia (spring) - saw time in 14 games, providing two assists
  • junior Stephen Scanlon (East Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) - Gold Coast, Australia (spring) - appeared in 16 contests, making 13 starts, while notching a goal and an assist
  • junior Colin Thompson (Saint Albans, Vt./BFA-Saint Albans) - Gold Coast, Australia (spring) - midfielder made all 16 of his appearances in the starting lineup

Women's Soccer

  • junior Janet Bazzell (Haverhill, N.H./Woodsville) - Florence, Italy (spring) - played in all 17 games, collecting a goal and an assist
  • junior Jessica White (Fairfax, Vt./BFA-Fairfax) - Brisbane, Australia (spring) - saw time in three contests as a reserve

Women's Swimming & Diving

  • junior Emma Hauser (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) - Arusha, Tanzania (spring) - final meet was Northeast-10 Conference Invitational on Dec. 4. Won 1,000-yard freestyle on Nov. 5 at Colby-Sawyer College
  • junior Corine McAllister (South Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) - London, England (fall) - returned in time to compete at Jan. 7 meet in Puerto Rico. Won 100-yard individual medley on Jan. 24 versus Norwich University
  • junior Andrea Munar (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) - Barcelona, Spain (fall) - saw time in first meet on Jan. 14 at The College of Saint Rose

Men's Tennis

  • junior Chris Moskal (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) - Stellenbosch, South Africa (spring) - went 4-5 between singles and doubles during fall, posting a 3-2 mark in doubles play

Women's Tennis

  • junior Emily Magee (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) - Salzberg, Austria (fall) - posted 11 wins during 26 matches at No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles. Named to NE-10 Tournament All-Tournament team
  • junior Jean-Marie McGrath (Niwot, Colo./Alexander Dawson School) - Dublin, Ireland (fall) - earned four singles victories while appearing at four different positions, and notched four wins at No. 2 doubles

Women's Volleyball

  • junior Courtney Dunne (Hopkinton, Mass./Bancroft School) - Florence, Italy (spring) - recorded 402 digs while appearing in 33 matches as the libero
  • sophomore Cynthia Edgerton (Vail, Colo./Vail Mountain School) - Panama City, Panama (spring) - provided 27 service aces and 53 assists, mostly in a reserve capacity
  • junior Tracy Peterka (Newport Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) - Rome, Italy (spring) - totaled 276 kills and 226 digs while dropping 37 aces
