COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Purple Knight men's and women's soccer teams were recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) on Wednesday as recipients of the 2009 Team Academic Award for posting a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher in the 2008-09 academic year.
There were a total of 582 soccer teams (145 men, 337 women) who posted a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Of that total, 101 schools had both their men's and women's programs recognized, with Saint Michael's College among them.
The women's soccer team, under head coach Marcel Choquette, posted a team GPA of 3.21, earning them the award for the third time in four years. The men's team, coached by James Franklin, posted a 3.18 team GPA, earning the award each year since 2006.
