Eight From SMC Named To NE-10 Winter, Spring All-Academic Teams


COLCHESTER, Vt. - Eight Saint Michael's College student-athletes - four winter athletes and four spring athletes - were named to the 2009 Northeast-10 Conference All-Academic Team, the conference office announced on Thursday.

Earning honors on the Winter All-Academic Team were: women's swimming and diving senior Stephanie Hammer '09 (Billings, Mont./Billings West); and three men's ice hockey players: senior Tyler Bilton '09 (Penticton, British Columbia/Finlandia University), Chris Healey '09 (Salem, N.H./N.H. Junior Monarchs), and junior Dave Vorozilchak (Clark Summit, Pa./Capital District Selects).

Receiving accolades on the Spring All-Academic Team were: men's golf senior Will Crall '09 (Pittsfield, Mass./Saint Joseph Central); women's lacrosse senior Sara Biondello '09 (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury); softball junior Katelyn Billings (Saint Albans, Vt./Bellows Free Academy-Saint Albans); and women's tennis sophomore Marybeth Ash (Westborough, Mass./Westborough).

Hammer, who holds the women's swimming program record in the 1,650-yard freestyle, graduated last month with a 3.57 cumulative Grade Point Average and a degree in psychology.

Bilton, a two-time NE-10 Tournament Most Valuable Player and the 2009 NE-10 Goaltender of the Year, graduated in May with a 3.36 GPA and a degree in business administration.

Healey, a two-time NE-10 All-Conference Second Team selection and the league's leading goal scorer in 2008-09, graduated last month with a 3.41 GPA and a degree in business administration.

Vorozilchak, one of the league's top defensemen and an assistant captain the last two seasons, has a 3.70 cumulative GPA and is majoring in engineering.

Crall, an NE-10 All-Conference First Team pick as a senior after tying for fifth place at the NE-10 Golf Championship, graduated in May with a 3.70 GPA and a degree in biology.

Biondello, who started all 14 women's lacrosse games this past spring, graduated last month with a 3.89 GPA (the highest of all Saint Michael's student-athletes in her class) and a degree in psychology.

Billings, an NE-10 Softball All-Conference Third Team pick this past spring and one of the top scholar-athletes at the College, has a 3.94 GPA and is pursuing majors in chemistry and mathematics.

Ash, an NE-10 All-Conference Third Team selection in No. 2 Doubles this past spring, and a member of the women's basketball team, has a 3.50 GPA and is majoring in economics.
