Matt Alexander Named To ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District At-Large Team

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Recent Saint Michael's College graduate Matt Alexander '09 (Richmond, Vt./Mount Mansfield Union) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District At-Large Second Team, it was announced on Thursday. The award is voted upon by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Alexander is the only student-athlete from Division II to be honored in the District 1 College Division. The College Division is made up of NCAA Division II and Division III institutions, while District 1 consists of all NCAA schools in New England, New York, and five Canadian provinces.

The "at-large" program consists of those sports that do not have their own Academic All-America program. Eligible sports for the men's at-large program include: fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.

Alexander graduated last week magna cum laude with a 3.86 Grade Point Average while majoring in biology and classics. He was a member of the Saint Michael's Nordic ski team as a senior, and also a four-year standout on the cross country team. A multiple Northeast-10 Conference All-Academic and NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll selection, Alexander is also a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi National Honor Societies. Alexander recently received the 2009 Roger F. Keleher '15 Award which is given annually to Saint Michael's College's outstanding scholar-athlete, and is a finalist for the NE-10's Scholar-Athlete Award.
