Alexander, Denholm Finalists For NE-10 Scholar-Athlete Award

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Recent Saint Michael's College graduates, Matt Alexander (Richmond, Vt./Mount Mansfield Union) and Mary Lynn Denholm (Sparks, Md./Saint Paul School for Girls), are the College's 2008-09 Institutional Scholar-Athlete honorees, the Northeast-10 Conference announced today.

As a result, they are two of 30 finalists for the 2008-09 NE-10 Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, with the winners announced on Monday, June 1, at the NE-10 Awards Banquet in Mystic, Conn.

Alexander, a biology and classics double major with a 3.85 GPA, was a four-year member of the men's cross country team, and also competed in Nordic skiing as a senior. Alexander was a two-year captain of the cross country team, was a multiple NE-10 All-Academic and NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll selection, and is also a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi National Honor Societies. Alexander recently received the 2009 Roger F. Keleher '15 Award which is given annually to Saint Michael's College's outstanding scholar-athlete.

Denholm, a psychology major with a 3.62 GPA, was a member of the women's cross country team at Saint Michael's. Denholm is a four-year letter-winner for the cross country team, and one of the top runners in the program's 30-year history. She became the first female in school history to win the Vermont State Intercollegiate Championship in October and earned All-NE-10 Second Team honors this past season. Denholm also set a meet record in winning the Golden Knight Joust in September. A three-time NE-10 All-Academic selection and NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll scholar as well, she is a member of the Psi Chi National Honor Society.
