COLCHESTER, Vt. - Nine Saint Michael's College student-athletes - three each in softball, men's lacrosse and women's lacrosse - were named to the Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor roll, it was announced on Monday.
In softball, seniors Casey Brooks (Colchester, Vt./Colchester) and Meg Currier (Greenfield, Mass./Stoneleigh-Burnham School), along with sophomore Megan O'Connor (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown), earned honors. Brooks belted a three-run home run in a doubleheader versus Pace University on Wednesday, as did Currier, while O'Connor had a grand slam and a triple in the season finale versus the Setters.
In men's lacrosse, juniors Mark Agostinelli (Dedham, Mass./Xaverian Brothers), Jeff Hannon (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) and Greg Lazarus (Evanston, Ill./Evanston) received honors. Agostinelli scored twice in Tuesday's 13-9 win against Pace in the NE-10 Quarterfinals, and three times in Friday's 15-5 setback at Le Moyne College in the Semifinals. Lazarus netted six goals against Pace, while Hannon stopped six shots versus the Setters and a career-best 17 shots against the Dolphins.
In women's lacrosse, juniors Brynne Curran (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) and Amanada Soule (Hartland, Vt./Woodstock Union), along with sophomore Kim Berlo (Scituate, Mass./Scituate), garnered honor roll spots. Each tallied three goals in Wednesday's 20-13 loss at Bentley College in the NE-10 Quarterfinals.
Also, in postseason awards handed out over the weekend, senior Meggan Roberge (Sheldon Springs, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union) was named the NE-10's Pitcher of the Year for the second time in her career. She finished the season with a league-best 19 wins, 248 strikeouts, and a .161 opponent's batting average, and was second with a 1.03 earned run average. Roberge was also named to the NE-10's First Team, as was sophomore Ashley Harkins (Colchester, Vt./Colchester), who belted a program-record eight home runs this spring while finishing second in the NE-10 with a .622 slugging percentage. Earning Third Team All-Conference honors were juniors Katy Newland (East Burke, Vt./Lyndon Institute) and Maggie Russell (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley), with Russell doing so for the second straight season.
In men's lacrosse, Agostinelli and junior Kevin Simmons (Ridgewood, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) garnered First Team All-Conference honors, as Agostinelli led the Purple Knights with 16 assists and was second with 45 points, while Simmons anchored one of the top defenses in the conference. Also, classmates Hannon and Lazarus garnered Second Team honors, as Lazarus had a team-high 46 goals and 46 points, and Hannon was third in the league with an 8.51 goals against average.
In women's lacrosse, juniors Julie Carey (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) and Brynne Curran (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) were named to the NE-10 All-Conference Second Team. Carey was among the team's leaders in ground balls and caused turnovers, while Curran had a team-high 49 goals and 60 points in 2007.
