COLCHESTER, Vt. - Eight Saint Michael's College student-athletes in five sports were named to the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced on Monday.
In men's lacrosse, juniors Jeff Hannon (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) and Greg Lazarus (Evanston, Ill./Evanston) earned honorsfollowing a 2-0 week for the Purple Knights. Hannon compiled a 5/58 goals against average in the two victories, stopping a combined 10 shots, while Lazarus netted eight goals in the two wins, including five in Saturday's 15-6 home victory versus Merrimack College. Saint Michael's has climbed to 10th in this week's United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division II National Poll.
In women's lacrosse, juniors Brynne Curran (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) and Amanda Soule (Hartland, Vt./Woodstock Union) received recognition. Curran notched 13 goals and two assists in a 2-1 week, scoring at least four goals in each game, while Soule recorded 12 goals and an assist in the three-game stretch.
In women's tennis, senior Cailie Burns (Chepachet, R.I/Ponaganset) and freshman Lindsay Horne (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) received honor roll nods. The duo led Saint Michael's (14-7) to the most wins in a seaosn in program history, as the top-seeded Purple Knights advanced to the NE-10 Championship before falling to Bryant University in the title match.
In softball, sophomore Ashley Harkins (Colchester, Vt./Colchester) earned an honor roll citation. She batted .417 (10-24) in eight games last week. In an 8-0 win against American International College on Saturday, she belted two home runs and had five runs batted in.
In men's tennis, sophomore Sean Steigerwald (North Andover, Mass./North Andover) received honors. He posted a doubles win in the NE-10 Quarterfinals at Bryant, and earned a singles victory in the regular-season finale against Franklin Pierce College.
