Pair of Purple Knights Receive NE-10 Weekly Awards


COLCHESTER, Vt. - Two Saint Michael's College student-athletes - senior Cailie Burns (Chepachet, R.I./Ponaganset) and sophomore John Lescure (Kennebunk, Maine/Berwick Academy) - earned weekly awards from the Northeast-10 Conference on Monday, while six other Purple Knights landed on the league's weekly honor roll.

Burns was named the NE-10's Women's Tennis Player of the Week. She led Saint Michael's (9-6, 8-1 NE-10) to three victories last week, as she posted singles' wins in all three matches, and doubles' victories in two of the matches. The Purple Knights are in second place in the conference with three regular-season matches remaining.

Lescure received the NE-10 Men's Tennis Player of the Week. He also guided the Purple Knights (7-7, 5-3 NE-10) to three victories last week, as he posted three doubles' wins and two singles' triumphs. Saint Michael's sits in fifth place in the 12-team conference, with a shot of hosting a quarterfinal playoff contest.

Earning spots on the weekly honor roll are: juniors Mark Agostinelli (Dedham, Mass./Xaverian Brothers), Jeff Hannon (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) and Greg Lazarus (Evanston, Ill./Evanston), who led the men's lacrosse team (3-2, 2-0 NE-10) to a pair of conference victories last week; senior Megan Lagasse (Newburyport, Mass./Governor Dummer Academy), who tallied six goals in a pair of games for the women's lacrosse team (2-3, 1-1 NE-10); senior Liz Clemente (Latham, N.Y./Academy of the Holy Names) in women's tennis; and sophomore Sean Steigerwald (North Andover, Mass./North Andover) in men's tennis.
