Seven Purple Knights Receive NE-10 Weekly Honors


COLCHESTER, Vt. - Seven Saint Michael's College student-athletes received weekly awards from the Northeast-10 Conference on Monday, while seven more earned spots on the league's weekly honor roll.

In men's lacrosse, three Purple Knights received weekly awards. Junior Gregory Lazarus (Evanston, Ill./Evanston) earned Player of the Week honors, as he netted five goals in Wednesday's 19-9 victory versus Presbyterian College. Charlie Niznansky (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) picked up Freshman of the Week honors, as he recorded three goals and two assists against Presbyterian, and junior Jeff Hannon (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) earned Co-Goalkeeper of the Week, as he stopped 13 shots in Wednesday's win.

In softball, senior Meggan Roberge (Sheldon Springs, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union) earned Pitcher of the Week honors for the second straight week. She led the Purple Knights to a 10-2 record at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Florida during spring break. Among her outstanding performances were a no-hitter in a 4-0 win versus Post University on March 12, and a three-hitter with nine strikeouts in a 2-0 shutout against Bloomfield College on Tuesday.

In women's tennis, Catherine Dalton (Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) garnered Freshman of the Week honors for the second time this season. She tallied three singles wins and a doubles victory in four matches in Hilton Head, S.C. last week, helping the Purple Knights defeat Nebraska Wesleyan University, 7-2, on Tuesday.

In men's tennis, Adam Brezinsky (South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley) picked up Freshman of the Week accolades. He won two singles matches and one doubles match during the squad's trip to Hilton Head, S.C. last week, including a win in the Purple Knights 7-2 triumph versus Pennsylvania State University-Behrend on Wednesday.

In women's lacrosse, Kayla Sibilia (Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) received Co-Freshmen of the Week honors, as she scored her first collegiate goal in the Purple Knights' 13-12 win against Skidmore College in Florida on March 12.

Earning spots on the conference's weekly honor roll include: junior Mark Agostinelli (Dedham, Mass./Xaverian Brothers), sophomore Jake Previte (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) and freshman Mike Bednarz (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin) in men's lacrosse; senior Megan Lagasse (Newburyport, Mass./Governor Dummer Academy) and sophomore Amanda Pelley (Mashpee, Mass./Falmouth) in women's lacrosse; senior Meg Currier (Greenfield, Mass./Stoneleigh-Burnham School) in softball; and sophomore John Lescure (Kennebunk, Maine/Berwick Academy) in men's tennis.
