COLCHESTER, Vt. - Five Saint Michael's College student-athletes were named to the Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor roll, it was announced on Monday.
In women's tennis, junior Cailie Burns (Chepachet, R.I./Ponaganset) and sophomore Michelle Wood (Chatham, N.Y./Chatham) earned spots on the honor roll. Both players teamed for a No. 2 doubles victory in Wednesday's 7-2 win versus Pace University, and also notched a singles win. The Purple Knights have earned the fifth seed in the NE-10 Playoffs, and will visit fourth-seeded Le Moyne College on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Saint Michael's recorded a 5-4 win at Le Moyne in the two teams' only regular-season match this year.
In men's tennis, sophomore Andy Samara (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) was chosen. Samara closed out the season with a No. 1 doubles victory against Pace on Wednesday, and helped the Purple Knights finish with six victories this season, the most for the program since 2001-02.
In women's lacrosse, senior Kristen Palazzo (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills) was honored. Palazzo tallied eight goals and three assists in a 1-1 week, including a game-high seven goals and three assists in the Purple Knights' 23-8 win at Southern Connecticut State University on Monday. Palazzo helped the Purple Knights break the program record for assists in one game on Saturday (14, old record was 11), and points in one game (37, old record was 31), two records that had lasted more than 20 years.
In men's lacrosse, sophomore Mike Boerma (Birchrunville, Pa./Lawrence Academy) received recognition. Boerma led Saint Michael's with two goals in Tuesday's setback at league-leader Merrimack College, and has a team-leading 16 goals and 22 points this season.
