Record-Setting Seniors Head Up Northeast-10 Honor Roll

COLCHESTER, Vt. - As the 2008 spring sports season came to an end in Colchester, five Saint Michael's College seniors from the men's and women's lacrosse teams left their everlasting mark in the school's record books as both teams advanced to the Northeast-10 conference semifinals. Also noted for her weekly accomplishments, a junior shortstop helped the softball team snap a sizeable skid in their final doubleheader on the road.

Helping the men's lacrosse team advance to the Northeast-10 Conference semifinals for the third straight year were seniors Mike Boerma (Concord, Mass./Lawrence Acad.) and Jeff Hannon (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug Reg.). In the 8-6 quarterfinal triumph over Merrimack, Boerma had a hand in all eight goals, scoring three goals and five assists on the afternoon. Boerma ends his careers having led Saint Michael's to four straight winning seasons and ranking third on the all-time scoring list with 144 points (90G, 44A). In net, Hannon registered 26 saves on the week with 16 in a 16-5 semifinal loss to the top-seeded Dolphins of Le Moyne College. Hannon will graduate in May as the all-time wins leader in the program's 26-year history with a record of 32-25. Senior attacker Greg Lazarus (Evanston, Ill./Evanston) was also noted for scoring his 109th career goal against Le Moyne to pull even with the school record set by Rick Saba '92.

In women's lacrosse, junior Kim Berlo (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) led the Purple Knights to the conference semifinal with a game- and career-high seven goals in a 19-14 upset win over Merrimack on the road. With an assist in the 18-5 semifinal loss to Stonehill, Berlo also became the record-holder for single-season assists at 27. Senior captain Amanda Soule (Hartland, Vt./Woodstock Union) was also noted for seven goals on the week, including five in the win over Merrimack. Soule and classmate Brynne Curran (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) were recognized for their illustrious careers, graduating as the top two scorers in the program's 26-year history. Curran with 197 career points on 158 goals and 39 assists also set the single-season record for goals scored (63) and career goals scored this spring. Soule ends her career with 157 points on 136 goals and 21 assists in purple and gold.

On the diamond, junior short stop Ashley Harkins (Colchester, Vt./Colchester) helped Saint Michael's snap a 20-game losing skid on the road at Franklin Pierce. Harkins went 3-for-6 in the doubleheader with a three-run triple in the opener to wage a 10-run inning en route to a 12-1 trouncing. Harkins finished her penultimate season as the team's leader in RBIs (24) and triples (four) and second in batting-average (.350) and hits (42).
