Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll: Lazarus, Curran, Giguere All Aboard
COLCHESTER, Vt.- In the final week of the season, seniors on the men's and women's lacrosse team at Saint Michael's College--Greg Lazarus (Evanston, Ill./Evanston) and Brynne Curran (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth)--were named to the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the second straight week. Freshman Deahna Giguere (Oakland, Maine/Messaolonskee) was also recognized for helping Saint Michael's to the conference championship against Bryant.
Leading Saint Michael's to a 10-6 season finale win over Pace University and earning the Purple Knights a No. 4-seed in the upcoming men's lacrosse conference post-season, Lazarus scored four goals on Wednesday afternoon at Duffy Field to lead all scorers. Lazarus and the Purple Knights end their regular season with a 7-6 record entering the Northeast-10 Conference quarterfinals to be played against No. 5-seed Saint Anselm on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Colchester.
On the women's side, Curran ended the week one goal shy of the program record for goals in a season (60) with a quarterfinal match up to come at No. 4 Merrimack on Wednesday. With 12 points on the week, she tallied five goals and four assists in a 16-10 win over Southern Connecticut. Earlier in the week, she scored two goals and one assist in a 17-5 loss to nationally-ranked #5 Stonehill College (10-0 NE-10).
Playing at #2 Singles and #2 Doubles, the first-year Giguere helped the women's tennis team make history with 15 wins on the year following a 5-4 semifinal victory over Southern New Hampshire Friday afternoon. Giguere won convincingly in her singles match (6-2, 6-2) after giving Saint Michael's a 2-1 lead with an 8-5 doubles win. Ending the season 15-6, the women's tennis team--ranked eighth regionally--will likely earn a berth in the upcoming NCAA tournament (to be announced Wednesday).
