Lazarus, Curran, Ranks Receive Weekly Northeast-10 Accolades

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Three Saint Michael's College student athletes were named to this week's Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor roll for their performance over the past week. Seniors Greg Lazarus (Evanston, Ill./Evanston) and Brynne Curran (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) of the men's and women's lacrosse teams were recognized, while first-year Marran Ranks (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) was noted for helping the women's tennis team earn a post-season berth as the No. 2-seed in the Northeast-10 Conference eight-team playoff.

In a 1-1 week for the men's lacrosse team, Lazarus scored four goals as part of a 7-0 first quarter versus American International. The Purple Knights would go on to win 16-5 and end the week 6-6 overall and 5-4 in conference play after suffering an 8-7 setback at Merrimack where Lazarus tallied a first period goal as well. Lazarus has now scored a team-best 25 goals on the year, surpassing the century mark on the week, now with 102 in his career. Ranked third in career goals scored in school history, he would need eight goals to become the program's record holder with one regular season game and at least one post-season game remaining.

As part of a 2-1 week for the women's lacrosse team, Curran averaged four goals per game while chipping in one assist. In a 14-12 win over Saint Anselm, she scored five goals, including the unassisted game-winner with 11:38 left in regulation. In a 16-15 overtime win over Bentley, Curran posted four goals, three of which came consecutively to mount a Purple Knights comeback. On Sunday, she also scored the team's only three goals against undefeated, reigning national champion C.W. Post. With two regular season games remaining and 52 goals on the year, Curran needs nine goals to establish a program record for goals in a season.

Heading into the postseason, the women's tennis team pulled off a pair of gritty 5-4 wins over Merrimack and Stonehill. The freshman Ranks did her part by going undefeated in four matches she was a part of. Against Merrimack, she won her singles competition 6-2, 6-4 and doubles competition 8-3. Vying for second place with Stonehill on Sunday, Ranks won the deciding singles match 6-4, 7-5 after squeaking by in doubles, 9-8 (6).
