Seven Snag Northeast-10 Weekly Honors

COLCHESTER, Vt. ? Seven Saint Michael's College student-athletes were named to the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll for their play in this past week's events, it was announced on Monday. Helping the men's lacrosse team to a pair of nail-biting wins, two seniors were recognized in a week they were recognized on ?Senior Day' in Colchester. Two members of the women's team were duly noted along with two tennis players and a softball pitcher.

Helping the Saint Michael's men's lacrosse team (5-5, 4-3 NE-10) to a 2-0 week were seniors Greg Lazarus (Evanston, Ill./Evanston) and Jeff Hannon (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug Regional). The attacker Lazarus, scored two goals and one assist in a 6-5 win over Assumption before a three-goal, one-assist effort in a 9-7 win over Bentley College. The net-minder, Hannon, stopped 27 shots in the two contests, including a shutout first half against Assumption on Wednesday with a .750 save-percentage. Against Bentley, he snuffed eight shots to withstand a Falcons rally in the fourth.

In women's lacrosse, senior Brynne Curran (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) was back on the honor roll following her record-setting performance a week ago. The leader scorer in program history tacked on to her point total (165) with three goals versus both Southern New Hampshire and Merrimack. Junior Kim Berlo (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) also landed on the honor roll with seven goals and three assist on the week. In a 14-13 heart-breaking loss to Merrimack, Berlo tallied four goals and three assists as part of a 10-4 Saint Michael's run in the second half.

In a tough week for Saint Michael's softball, junior pitching ace Megan O'Connor (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) was recognized for carrying a five-game hitting streak through the week's end. She also pitched a complete game, while striking out three, in a 5-3 win over UMass-Lowell. In the game, O'Connor batted 3-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in. Later in the week versus Southern Connecticut, she would go 2-for-4 with three RBI in a 7-6 loss.

As the men's and women's tennis teams won their third and fourth straight matches, respectively, each team's No. 1 players found a spot on the weekly honor roll with 8-1 sweeps of American International and a women's 6-3 win over Assumption. Junior John Lescure (Kennebunk, Maine/Berwick Acad.) tallied an 8-2 doubles win to lead the Purple Knights on Sunday while sophomore Lindsay Horne (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) led the women with four victories in all. Three of her matches went into extra sets, including both in the win over Assumption (6-4, 7-4 [10-8]; 9-8 [7-5]). Both the men and women currently sit in second place behind Bryant in Northeast-10 Conference play entering the home stretch of the 2008 regular season.
