COLCHESTER, Vt. - Six Saint Michael's College student-athletes were named to the Northeast-10 Honor Roll for their performance over the past week, it was announced on Monday. Three basketball players, two swimmers and one hockey player were among the recipients. For senior Brian Monahan (Kinderhook, N.Y./Christian Brothers Acad.), it marked the eighth time the co-captain has been selected to the men's basketball weekly honor roll this year.
In men's basketball, it was Monahan who led the Purple Knights in averaging 19 points and 14 rebounds in a pair of losses to Assumption College and Saint Anselm College. He also averaged 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals in the two game span.
For women's basketball, sophomore Michelle Otey (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) and freshman Logan Pintka (Niskayuna, N.Y./Colonie) were selected for their accomplishments in a win over Saint Anselm and loss to Assumption. Otey, a five-time honoree this year, averaged 13.5 points and 8.5 rebounds on the week, including a game-high 17 points (7-10 FG) and 11 rebounds in a 66-54 win over Saint Anselm. Pintka scored a team-high 13 points versus Assumption and 15 against Saint Anselm while averaging six rebounds and two steals for the week.
In Men's Ice Hockey, junior Ryan Mero (Peekskill, N.Y./Avon Academy) earned the honors scoring two goals against Tufts University Saturday before the Purple Knights dropped their second 6-3 decision in as many days. For Mero, it was his team-high ninth goal of the year, increasing his team-high in points to 17.
In swimming, freshman Aidan Warhall (New Haven, Conn./Notre Dame) and Gene Taylor (Marmora, N.J./Ocean City) each swam to first place finishes in the 100-yard Backstroke (1:04.20) and 100-yard Freestyle (52.63), respectively to earn honorable mention.
