Five Purple Knights Named To Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll

COLCHESTER, Vt.- One swimmer, two basketball players and two hockey players at Saint Michael's were voted to this week's Northeast-10 Weekly honor for their performance over the past seven days. In basketball, it marks the fourth straight week that senior co-captain Brian Monahan (Kinderhook, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) has been honored on the men's side and third straight week that sophomore Michelle Otey (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) has received recognition for the women.

In a week that the men's basketball team (6-2, 4-2 NE-10) went 1-1, Monahan averaged 24 points and 8.5 rebounds while shooting 57-percent from the field (20-35). Against Le Moyne, he scored 29 points, shooting 3-of-5 from beyond the arc while the Purple Knights suffered their first road loss of the season. The team's win was at home versus American International, 68-60.

The women's basketball team (6-3, 4-2 NE-10) also went 1-1 on the week, dropping a decision at home versus American International, 64-48, but rebounded on the road to take down Le Moyne 59-52, led by Otey's 19 points and three steals. She averaged 15 points and five rebounds through the two games to make it four straight games in double figures.

In men's ice hockey (3-3-1, 2-0 NE-10), juniors Chris Healey (Salem, N.H./Monarchs) and John Burns (Sandwich, Mass./UConn) received honors for their performance in a win over Franklin Pierce, 7-1. Healey scored his third and fourth goals of the season while dishing out two helpers in the final period to seal the win. Burns earned honorable mention for increasing his season total to a team-high 10 assists with four in all and at least one in each period against Franklin Pierce.

In swimming and diving, freshman Gene Taylor (Marmora, N.J./Ocean City) was honored for winning three events in a dual meet with Skidmore including the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.69), 100-yard freestyle (51.74) and the 500-yard Freestyle (5:19.29). Taylor led his team to a 155-101 win over the Thoroughbreds.
