COLCHESTER, Vt.- For the second time this season, Brian Monahan (Kinderhook, N.Y./Christian Brothers Acad.) has been named the men's basketball NE-10 'Player of the Week'. This after averaging 30.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals in a win over Southern Connecticut and a loss to Merrimack. Monahan also tallied a career-high 35 points in the contest versus Merrimack. Two basketball players and two hockey players were also named to the weekly honor roll.
In addition to Monahan's accolades for men's basketball, junior forward Jon Zylstra (Uxbridge, Mass./Whitinsville Christian School) was named NE-10 honorable mention for averaging 15.5 points and 8.5 rebounds, including a career-high 20 points on 6-9 shooting. Zylstra is also tied for 13th in the NE-10 for free throw percentage at 85.7-percent and 15th in rebounding at 6.7 boards per game.
For women's basketball, sophomore Michelle Otey (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) makes it back-to-back weeks on the NE-10 honor roll, averaging 15 points and seven rebounds in two games. Otey recorded a career-high 20 points in a 58-54 win over Merrimack while grabbing ten boards to lead the Purple Knights.
In men's ice hockey, senior captain Erik Caron (Kanata, Ontario/Smith Falls Bears) and junior Ryan Mero (Peekskill, N.Y./Avon Academy) were both voted to the NE-10 honor roll for their efforts in a win and a tie over the weekend. In Saint Michael's first ever win over Hamilton College, Caron scored a goal and two assists. This came a night after Caron notched a goal and two helpers in a 4-4 tie with Amherst. Mero scored three goals and two assists in the undefeated week, including two goals and one assist versus Hamilton.
