COLCHESTER, Vt. - The men's lacrosse team (7-3, 6-1 NE-10) picked up two wins last week, defeating Franklin Pierce College, 16-3, on Thursday, before traveling to Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday to earn a 7-6 win over the Penmen. Freshman Bryan Zaremba (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) scored five times and earned two assists against the Setters, while classmate Jake Previte (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) and sophomores Gregory Lazarus (Evanston, Ill./Evanston) and Mark Agostinelli (Dedham, Mass./Xaverian) tallied two goals apiece for the Purple Knights, who saw 12 different players earn points. Over the weekend, Agostinelli scored a hat-trick and senior Brandon Kobelt (Rye, N.Y./Fordham Prep) netted a pair of goals for Saint Michael's, who has now won six of its past seven contests since beginning the conference portion of its schedule.
           
The women's tennis team (9-8, 7-4 NE-10) won all three doubles matches and the last four singles matches to best The College of Saint Rose, 7-2, on Saturday. Junior Liz Clemente (Latham, N.Y./Academy of the Holy Names), and sophomores Michelle Wood (Chatham, N.Y./Chatham), Megan Conway (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield), and Danielle Gagnon (Gorham, Maine/Catherine McAuley) won their singles matches, while Wood and junior Cailie Burns (Chepachet, R.I./Ponaganset) took No. 1 doubles, followed by Clemente and Conway and freshmen Jessica Maurice (Portland, Maine/Deering) and Molly Harrison (Windham, N.H./Salem), who were victorious in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. On Sunday, the team edged Assumption College, 5-4. Burns, Clemente, and Conway won their singles contests, while senior Heidi Murphy (Norfolk, Mass./King Philip Regional) and junior Cara Bednar (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) and Burns and Wood teamed up for doubles victories.
           
The men's tennis team (6-9, 4-6 NE-10) swept Saint Anselm College, 9-0, on Thursday afternoon in Manchester, N.H. Sophomores Andy Samara (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) and Torr Terranova (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) picked up respective No. 1 and No. 2 singles wins and teamed up to take No. 1 doubles. Freshmen Sean Steigerwald (North Andover, Mass.) and Dave Besserrer (Brattleboro, Vt./Brattleboro Union) won No. 2 doubles, as each was victorious in their singles matches, as senior Tom Wu (Litchfield, Conn./Litchfield) and sophomore Gabe Ash (Westboro, Mass./Westboro) also earned individual wins while also combining to take No. 3 doubles.
           
The women's lacrosse team (6-2, 3-1 NE-10) extended its win streak to four games over the weekend, beating American International College, 17-7, on Saturday and the University of New Haven, 18-11, on Sunday. Against the Yellow Jackets, sophomore Amanda Soule (Hartland, Vt./Woodstock Union) and senior Kristen Palazzo (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills) each tallied five goals and an assist , while junior Megan Rule (Bow, N.H./Bow) and freshman Lauren Rizzotti (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) recorded two goals apiece. Against the Chargers, Soule netted six goals and junior Megan Lagasse (Newburyport, Mass./Governor Dummer Academy) scored twice and assisted on four others. Sophomore Brynne Curran (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth), meanwhile, notched four goals and contributed two assists in the win.
           
The softball team (9-13, 3-5 NE-10) recorded a pair of shutout victories versus in-state rival Lyndon State College on Thursday, 3-0 and 5-0, and split two weekend doubleheaders in four one-run games against Saint Anselm College and Southern New Hampshire University. In game one on Thursday, junior Meggan Roberge (Sheldon Springs, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union) pitched a perfect game into the sixth inning, and finished with 11 strikeouts in six innings of work to lead the Purple Knights to victory. Roberge retired the first 15 batters she faced and sophomore Jill Dalfonso (South Portland, Maine/Catherine McAuley) completed the one-hitter for Saint Michael's by pitching the seventh inning and recording the save. At the plate, Saint Michael's scored all three of its runs in the first inning, on a run-scoring single by junior Meg Currier (Greenfield, Mass./Stoneleigh-Burnham School) and a two-run homer by senior Meagan Newland (East Burke, Vt./Lyndon Institute). In game two, Saint Michael's scored four runs in the third inning to snap a scoreless tie. Currier lead the way with a double, run scored and run batted in. Senior Elizabeth Pigeon (Saint Albans, Vt./BFA-Saint Albans) and freshman Krysten Farrell (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) also doubled and scored for Saint Michael's, while sophomore Katy Newland (East Burke, Vt./Lyndon Institute) added a two-run single. Freshman Megan O'Connor (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) earned the victory on the mound, firing four innings of one-hit ball while recording seven strikeouts, while classmate Jenna Laniewski (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) threw the final three innings to earn the save. In Saturday's first game, Saint Anselm mounted a late inning comeback to erase a 2-0 deficit and edge Saint Michael's, 3-2. In the nightcap, O'Connor pitched a complete-game three-hitter, allowing no earned runs and no walks while striking out four batters. The Purple Knights snapped a two-all tie in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two-out run-scoring single by freshman Ashley Harkins (Colchester, Vt./Colchester). Harkins finished with three singles in game two, as did Brooks, who like Harkins also scored once and knocked in a run. Sophomore Maggie Russell (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) added two singles in the win, while Meagan Newland had an RBI single to lead the Purple Knights' 11-hit attack. On Sunday, after falling behind 4-0, Southern New Hampshire came back to edge Saint Michael's 5-4. In game two, the Purple Knights rallied from being down 4-2 in the bottom of the 10th inning to earn a 5-4 victory, and hand the Penmen their first conference loss of the season.
