COLCHESTER, Vt. – The men’s lacrosse team (4-2, 3-0
NE-10), ranked 11th in the most recent USILA Division II
Poll, picked up a pair of wins last week, earning conference
victories against Bentley, 7-5, and American International, 13-3.
On Wednesday, sophomore Mike Boerma
(Birchrunville,
Pa./Lawrence
Academy) and senior Erik
Libby (Cohasset,
Mass./Cohasset) each scored a
pair of goals, and senior co-captain Brandon Kobelt
(Rye, N.Y./Fordham Prep)
contributed two assists, while sophomore Jeff Hannon
(Wilbraham,
Mass./Minnechaug Regional) made
14 saves in net. Sunday, sophomore Gregory Lazarus
(Evanston,
Ill./Evanston)
scored three goals for the Purple Knights, and
Kobelt notched a pair of goals and an assist.
Freshman Bryan Zaremba (Manhasset,
N.Y./Manhasset) netted two goals, while classmate
Pat Ivory (Saratoga
Springs, N.Y./Saratoga), sophomore
Mark Agostinelli
(Dedham,
Mass./Xaverian) and
Boerma each tallied a goal and an assist.
The women’s tennis team (6-6, 4-2 NE-10) picked up
consecutive conference victories over the weekend, defeating
American International, 8-1, on Saturday, and Southern New
Hampshire, 6-3, on Sunday. Senior Heidi Murphy
(Norfolk, Mass./King Philip Regional) and junior
Cailie Burns (Chepachet, R.I./Ponaganset) each
picked up singles victories, and teamed to earn a pair of doubles
victories as well, while sophomores Michelle Wood (Chatham,
N.Y./Chatham) and Megan Conway (Lynnfield,
Mass./Lynnfield) also won both of their singles matches.
Conway also won both doubles events she participated in over the
weekend, alongside junior Elizabeth Clemente (Latham,
N.Y./Academy of the Holy Names).
The baseball team (2-4) played six games last week, dropping its
first four before earning back to back wins in a Sunday afternoon
doubleheader. On Wednesday, the team lost to nationally ranked
UMass Lowell, 4-2, and 13-1, and fell to Westfield State on
Saturday, 3-2, and 7-4. Sunday, the Purple Knights, and first year
head coach Seth Cole, picked up their first wins
of the season against Framingham State, 5-0, and 7-4. Senior
Kyle Hildebrand (So.
Windsor,
Conn./South
Windsor) batted .400 in six games,
starting five of them, driving in three, while scoring one.
Sophomore Ed Fennessey
(Wilton,
Conn./Wilton),
in four games, got four hits in seven at bats, while batting in
three runners. Senior Kevin Foley (Reading, Mass./Reading
Memorial) led the team with four runs batted in, hitting
.417 in 12 at bats, and earned a win on Sunday with his five
inning, two run performance. Senior Dan O'Connor
(Worcester,
Mass./Worcester
Academy) lost his first outing,
but bounced back on Sunday, throwing a complete game four hit shut
out, striking out three in the process.
The women’s lacrosse team (3-2, 1-1 NE-10) split its games
last week, falling to Merrimack on Tuesday, 12-11, and beat
Assumption on Saturday, 17-5. Against the Warriors, junior
Megan Rule (Bow, N.H./Bow) led a balanced scoring
attack with two goals and two assists. Senior Kristen
Palazzo (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills), sophomores
Brynne Curran (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape
Elizabeth) and Amanda Soule (Hartland,
Vt./Woodstock Union), and freshman Lauren Rizzotti
(Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) added two goals apiece for the
Purple Knights, while sophomore Courtney Wakem (Tiverton,
R.I./Tiverton) turned aside seven shots. Against the
Greyhounds, Curran scored four goals, and
Rizzotti, Soule, Rule, and
Palazzo netted two goals each, with Palazzo also
contributing two assists. Wakem, meanwhile, made
six saves between the pipes.
The men’s tennis team (5-6, 3-3 NE-10) defeated American
International, 8-1, on Saturday, and fell to Bentley, 8-1 on
Sunday. Saturday, sophomores Andy Samara

and Torr Terranova (Madison, Conn./Daniel
Hand), freshmen Dmitri Repnikov
(South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington)
and Sean Steigerwald (North Andover,
Mass.), and senior Tom Wu
(Litchfield, Conn./Litchfield) each
earned singles and doubles victories, with sophomore Gabe
Ash (Westboro, Mass./Westboro) picking up
a win in No. 1 doubles with Samara. Sunday, Steigerwald earned the
team’s lone victory, winning No. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-4.
