Michael Garcia returns to Saint Michael's for his second year in 2012-13 as the College's head athletic trainer. Garcia heads a three-person staff charged with the health care of the College's 21 NCAA Division II intercollegiate varsity sports programs.

Garcia served as the head athletic trainer at Skidmore in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., from 1980 to 2010, overseeing all aspects of an athletic training department that served 19 sports and approximately 400 student-athletes. A legendary figure in Thoroughbred Athletics, Garcia was also the men's lacrosse head coach from 1980-89, winning the 1981 Mayflower Conference title, and was inducted into the institution's athletics hall of fame in fall 2011.

Garcia also taught classes within the exercise science major during his tenure at Skidmore while teaching the applied sport science and athletic training portion of the New York State Coaching Certification Program for 15 years. A founding member of the Saratoga Sports Medicine Society in 2000, Garcia has owned Kinetic Fitness: Performance Enhancement Training since 2010.

In 1981, Garcia earned a master's degree in education with a concentration in athletic training from Alfred (N.Y.) University after graduating cum laude from the State University of New York at Potsdam in 1975 with degrees in anthropology and psychology. Garcia is a member of Lambda Alpha, the national anthropology honor society.
