Donald Steffens
Nickname: Luke
Class: Class of 1940
Sport: Baseball, Basketball
Enshrined: Inducted October 17, 1989

Considered along with co-inductee Scott Racicot to be the finest pitcher in the College's long baseball history. In the year of his induction, he still holds five College baseball records, including most wins as a freshman (5), most career wins (15), most strikeouts in a season (74) and in a career (196). He also holds the mark for most walks in a game - when he beat Clarkson in 1939 by a 3-1 score, he walked nine batters, but struck out 14 and allowed just four hits! His five wins as a freshman in 1937 were the only wins the Purple Knights had that year. Although he never threw a no-hitter, he had three career one-hit games. He was co-captain of the 1940 Green Mountain Conference championship team, and was a three-time All-State choice. On the basketball court, he was a valuable sixth man on SMC's state championship team of 1939-40.
