Dick played just one season with the "Purple Knights" varsity basketball team, but it was an unforgettable one. After a stellar season with the "Purple Squires" freshman squad, "Moose" became the starting center for the legendary "Iron Knights", arguably the greatest starting five in the history of the basketball program at the College. He was a steady force inside the paint, averaging in double figures in points (15.3) and rebounds (11.5). In his only season with the Knights, Saint Michael's advanced to the College Division National Championship Game, where they fell to South Dakota, 75-53. "Moose" garnered All-State and All-New England First Team honors following the magic season.
