Charlie is one of the most respected and recognized figures in New England collegiate and youth athletics. A three-year basketball standout at Saint Michael's, it is since his graduation that he has built his true legacy of greatness. A Saint Michael's Trustee, he has enjoyed a distinctive career at UMass Boston for 25 years (serving as Athletic Director since 1980), and collected his 250th career basketball coaching victory in 1998. In addition to his substantial commitment to UMass Boston, the ECAC, and NCAA as a coach and administrator, Charlie has been an ambassador for the Boston community. His resume of service is highlighted by his time dedicated to two Governor's Advisory Committees; the Roxbury Community College Advisory Board; the Boston Public Schools Athletic Advisory Committee; the Boston Celtics Community Advisory Panel; the Boston Olympic Committee; and as the Associate Commissioner for the Boston Parks and Recreation Department. He also serves as Co-Chair of the Boston Coalition and the Boston Public Schools Sports Partnership, and is on the Board of Directors for seven other community initiatives.
