Edmund J. Kryger
Class of 1965
Basketball
Inducted October 20, 2001

Ed was a tough power forward during the glory days of Purple Knight basketball - and played a large role in the Knights' march to the NCAA Final Four in 1965.  In his three-year varsity career (freshmen were not eligible to participate in that era), he amassed 1,073 career points, and 899 career rebounds - giving him impressive game averages of 15.1 points and 12.7 rebounds.  He was fourth all-time in scoring when he graduated.  As a sophomore, he was third in team scoring behind Hall of Fame members Walt Baumann '63 and classmate Rich Tarrant '65, and was second behind Tarrant as a junior and senior.

In that great season of 1964-65, Ed was named to the All-Tournament team at the NCAA Regionals, where the Knights were crowned the best of the Northeast after beating Hartwick and Assumption.  They went on to stun Akron 101-87 in the National Quarterfinals before losing to Evansville in the Semifinals (93-70).  Ed was a two-time All-State and All-New England choice, and his Knights were 50-21 (.704 winning percentage) during his career.  His brother, Bobby ‘67, was also a talented player for SMC.

Ed had a successful sales management career with the Sibra Corporation, and recently retired from the company.  He gave back to his community through athletics, volunteering as a coach in Little League baseball, as well as CYO soccer and basketball.  He and his wife, Maureen, have three children, and reside in Londonderry, N.H.
