John J. Gurskis III
Class of 1998
Ice Hockey
Inducted October 21, 2005

Considered by many to be the greatest hockey player in College history, John compiled a remarkable resume in his sport over his four-year career. He shattered many Purple Knight scoring records during his time, and graduated as the program's all-time leading scorer with 93 goals and 141 assists for 234 points. He was a star from the beginning, earning the ECAC Rookie of the Year Award after his 38-point inaugural season. His trophy case filled over his four years: three-time NCAA All-American, two-time ECAC Player of the Year, four-time All-ECAC, and three-time New England Hockey Writers Association All-Star. In his senior season, 1997-98, he led the Knights to their first 20-win season, and the ECAC Central Division Championship ? the first title in hockey's modern era at the College. During that season, John scored 34 goals and added 48 assists for 82 points in just 27 games! He was featured in Sports Illustrated Magazine's "Faces In The Crowd" in recognition of his magical year and career. He was awarded the College's Victor V. LeMieux '35 Award that same year. After graduation, John embarked on a professional hockey career that continues at the time of his induction eight years later, through over 450 games and 400 career points.
