James J. Feloney
Class of 1951
Ice Hockey
Inducted October 17, 1992

"The Rocket," as Jim was known in his College days, was one of the most prolific scorers in Ice Knight history. When he arrived at SMC in the fall of 1947, ice hockey had been dropped from varsity status for two years. Jim and a group of determined players formed an amateur team called "The Winooski Park Collegians", toured the Northeast and Canada, and captured the Amateur State Championship of 1947-48. Jim led the team in scoring, racking up an incredible 21 goals and 12 assists in 12 games. Because of the impressive showing the team made that season, the sport was reinstated with varsity status in 1948-49. Jim led the Ice Knights in scoring in each of his remaining three years, scoring 17-9--26 in eight games in 1948-49, 18-18--36 in 13 games in 1949-50 (leading the Knights to the state championship), and 16-4--20 in six games in 1950-51. For his career, the Rocket tallied an amazing 72 goals (half of SMC's team total for the span) and 43 assists for 115 points in just 39 games!
