Brian T. Curtin

Brian would have to be considered the most successful men's cross country runner in the program's varsity history.  He won an SMC-record eight meets in his career, including four individual wins in his senior season.  Three of those wins in the fall of 1986 were quite notable:  he became the first male SMC harrier to win the SMC Invitational in back-to-back years; he was the first SMC team member in over a decade to capture the Vermont State Championship; and he was the first SMC male to win the Mideast Collegiate Conference Championship.  He currently owns four individual cross-country records here, including the fastest recorded times at three different distances.  He was a two-time team captain, and two-time team MVP.  The men's cross-country team was very strong during Brian's career, suffering only one sub .500 season in four years.

Since graduation, however, it has been the sport of basketball that has kept Brian involved in college athletics.  After serving as an assistant coach at Marymount University for four years, Brian was hired as the head coach for NCAA III Manhattanville College in 1994, and has since taken on a dual role as coach and assistant athletic director.  The Valiants have enjoyed three straight winning seasons under Brian's tenure, and have made two ECAC tournament appearances over that span.  Brian's coaching philosophy blends a heavy dose of academics and community service with basketball.  Among the charities he is actively involved in are: Habitat for Humanity, the Midnight Run, Westchester Senior Citizens, and the Tarrytown Cleanup.  Brian currently resides in New Rochelle, N.Y.
