A true "Ironman," Colville was the first dominant pitcher in the
history of baseball at Saint Michael's. In his two-year
career, he was the winning pitcher in 14 of SMC's 16
victories. As a freshman in 1932, he won six games, including
a masterful four-hit shutout against Vermont--SMC's first-ever win
over UVM! Chosen team captain as a sophomore in 1933,
Colville won eight games, and led the Knights to their first-ever
Green Mountain Conference Championship. He was twice named
All-Conference and All-State First Team. Remarkably, he beat
Vermont all four times he faced them, for prior to his arrival UVM
had led the crosstown series 21-0! At the time of his
induction, Colville still holds four SMC pitching records, and is
one of only three Knight hurlers to throw a no-hitter. Like
teammate and Hall of Famer Phil Ruggiero, Colville also played
varsity tennis during baseball.
