John has been a virtual bridge between athletics and academics
since he arrived at Saint Michael's in 1974. A highly-accredited
and very popular professor of economics, and Chair of the
Department, John began his association with the College's athletic
department in 1975, when he joined the football coaching staff. A
football star as an undergraduate at Colby College, he remained on
the football staff here through the 1979 season. He again entered
the coaching ranks five years later, when he became the assistant
women's lacrosse coach, and together with Todd Wadsworth led the
program to a 23-6 mark from 1984-86. During that stretch, the
Knights also made the first post-season tournament appearance in
the program's history! He has served as Chair of the Hall of Fame
Committee and Athletic Advisory Council (twice), and on two
Athletic Task Forces. A long-time NCAA Faculty Representative, John
has received seven awards for excellence in teaching, a yearbook
dedication, and the Gerald Dupont Award.
