Saint Michael's College

"Big Ted" was the first dominant "big man" in Purple Knight basketball history. At 6'6", Ted played center for the great basketball teams of the late 1940's and early 1950's. As a freshman, he was a member of the incredible Purple Squires unit of 1947-48 that went 12-1 and also included Hall of Famers Ed Markey and Billy Hart. Before Ted's arrival at Saint Michael's, no college player in the state of Vermont had ever scored 300 points in a single season. Ted exceeded it in each of his three varsity seasons, including the then-unheard-of total of 378 in 1949-50! He also became the first player in state and College history to surpass the 1,000-point plateau in a career. He was named All-State three times, All-New England twice, and All-New Jersey Collegiate once in his career. At one time, he held virtually all of SMC's offensive records, and at his time of induction, ranked 21st all-time in scoring with 1,025 points. During his remarkable career, the Knights went 62-18 (a win percentage of 78%), and won two state championships!
