Bo Birsky was a standout in both basketball and baseball at SMC.
In basketball, he led the Knights in scoring in three of his four
years, captained the team as a junior and senior, and was named
All-State as a sophomore and senior. In baseball, he excelled both
on the mound and at third base. He was named All-State three times
in his career, and captained the team as a junior and senior. He
pitched all three of his team's victories in 1945, beating Vermont
twice (a one-hitter and a six-hitter, each time striking out 15).
In his collegiate finale, he threw a three-hit, 16 strikeout
shutout against Middlebury. He was also an offensive threat,
batting .310 as a junior and .322 as a senior. At the close of his
senior year, Bo was awarded the prestigious Block "M" Award, for
athletic and scholastic excellence.
