Robert D. Berno
Class of 1985
Ice Hockey
Inducted October 18, 2003

Bob Berno was a dominant force when Purple Knight varsity ice hockey was launched in the modern era. The program regained varsity status for the 1982-83 season - Bob's sophomore year - and he would go on to lead the Purple Knights in scoring for the next three seasons. He collected 32 points (14-18) as a sophomore, 33 points (23-10) as a junior, and 33 more (20-13) as a senior. His career totals of 57 goals and 41 assists for 98 points were amassed in only 54 games! He is one of only three players in SMC history (two since 1951) to average better than a goal per game in a career. One of the ECAC's top players, he graduated as the program's all-time leading scorer, and ranks 10th all time in total points and 6th in total goals at the time of his induction. Among those players with three-year careers, he is 3rd all-time in points, and 2nd in goals scored. As a team, the Purple Knights recorded a record of 5-13 overall and 4-12 in ECAC play in their initial season, but posted their first winning season the very next year, going 12-8 overall and 9-4 in league play.
