John "Jack" Attwood is among the very best defensive soccer
players in the history of the sport at Saint Michael's.
Despite playing during one of the Purple Knights' least successful
spans (the Knights were 11-28-4 during his four-year career), Jack
was praised in the various media publications of that time for his
tremendous abilities at fullback. He was a three-year
starter, and served as team captain in his junior and senior
seasons. He was named the team's Most Valuable Player in 1974
and 1975. Jack was also a standout in the classroom and in
1976 was named Academic All-America by the College Sports
Information Directors of America -- the first student-athlete in
Saint Michael's College history to receive this honor.
