Basketball Hosting HHH Mental Health Awareness Games, Celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College's student-athlete-run mental health organization Hope Happens Here (HHH) will continue its winter programming at the basketball doubleheader on Wednesday, when National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) will also be celebrated at the Ross Sports Center. All girls and women will be admitted free to the contests, and the women's basketball team will hold a postgame autograph session in the lobby.

The Purple Knights host Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday, with the women tipping off at 5:30 p.m. and the men following at 7:30 p.m. With the Saint Michael's chapter of HHH hosting Mental Health Awareness Games that night, the teams will wear special HHH warm-up T-shirts, while members of HHH, which promotes mental health awareness and mental well-being among college students, in particular student-athletes, will be on hand to share information and continue the discussion about mental health. The College is taking part in the 33rd annual NGWSD, an event that began in 1987 as a day to remember late Olympic volleyball player Flo Hyman for her athletic achievements and her work to assure equality for women's sports. Since that time, NGWSD has evolved into a day to acknowledge the past and recognize current sports achievements, the positive influence of sports participation, and the continuing struggle for equality and access for women in sports.
