Women's Basketball (5-7, 1-6) Nabs Two Wins on the Road Against Roberts Wesleyan and Daemen

The Saint Michael's College women's basketball team grabbed two wins on the road this past weekend, defeating Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College, 70-69, on a go-ahead bucket from sophomore Nicole Anderson (Kittery Point, Maine/Marianapolis Prep) with 15.6 seconds left on Friday before beating Daemen (N.Y.) College, 65-56, on Saturday.

In the matchup against Roberts Wesleyan, Anderson tallied 22 points - including four three-pointers - five rebounds, and five assists, while senior Emily Ferreri (Hyde Park, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) had 14 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and four steals. This was Ferreri's third double-double of the year, and her third straight double-digit-rebound game. Junior Taylor Miller (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) notched 12 points, seven boards, three assists, and two blocks, while classmate Alyssa Breunig (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) netted six points and seven rebounds. First-year Nicole Ladas (Glastonbury, Conn./Tilton School) contributed six points on 2-of-3 shooting from beyond the arc in 12 minutes of play, while junior Brianna Purcell (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) registered six rebounds and seven assists. The Purple Knights held a 42-32 rebounding lead while being credited for 20 assists on 28 made baskets. The Purple and Gold held Roberts Wesleyan to just 3-for-13 (23.1%) shooting from three-point range, while shooting 8-for-21 (38.1%) from three. 

Against Daemen, Ferreri posted 18 points on 3-for-6 shooting from beyond the arc and added five rebounds, four assists and two steals, while going 5-for-6 from the free-throw line. Purcell corralled 17 points on 7-for-12 shooting, while Miller added eight points, a career-high 14 rebounds, and four blocks, pushing her career blocks total to 51 and becoming the 13th Purple Knight with 50 for a career. Breunig had nine points, four boards, and two steals, while Anderson dished out three assists. The Purple and Gold held a 30-16 advantage on points in the paint while holding the Wildcats to just 28.8 percent shooting.

 

Men's Ice Hockey (3-8-2, 3-1-1) Returns to Action with Loss at Castleton    

The Saint Michael's College men's ice hockey team returned to action in its first game since Dec. 8 with a 5-1 loss at Castleton University on Saturday. Sophomore Thomas Flack (Toronto, Ontario/Saint Michael's Buzzers) tallied the Purple Knights' lone goal, while senior Sam D'Antuono (Hingham, Mass./Dexter School) had an assist and two blocks, while going 12-for-21 on faceoffs. First-year Andy Ide (Barrington, R.I./Cushing Academy) added six faceoff wins on eight attempts. Junior Tim Decker (Liverpool, N.Y./Canterbury School) totaled seven saves in 29:47 before senior Chris Johnson (Duxbury, Mass./Pomfret School) saved four shots in 28:41 of relief.

 

Women's Ice Hockey (3-9, 2-4) Swept in 14th Annual Delta Hotels Burlington Ice Hockey Classic

The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team dropped both games over the weekend while hosting the 14th Annual Delta Hotels Burlington Ice Hockey Classic, falling 4-1 to the University of Southern Maine on Friday before losing a 5-1 decision to the State University of New York at Buffalo State on Saturday. Senior Madison Nichols (Gilford, N.H./Tilton School) was named to the all-tournament team.

In the game against Southern Maine, Nichols posted her sixth goal of the season, while sophomore Riley Nichols (Gilford, N.H./Tilton School) added an assist and two blocked shots. First-year Jenna Harrison (Boston, Mass./Wellesley) recorded an assist, while sophomore Emily Lanci (Canton, Mass./Lawrence Academy) went 9-for-14 from the dot. Junior Vika Simons (Essex Junction, Vt./Minnesota Duluth Club) registered 23 saves.

Against SUNY Buffalo State, sophomore Krista Ferrari (Dunstable, Mass./East Coast Wizards) netted a goal, while going 13-for-26 on faceoffs. Madison Nichols had the assist on the goal. Lanci totaled six blocked shots, while sophomore Courtney Kelly (Arlington, Mass./Boston Jr. Shamrocks) had five and junior Arianna Boscia (Cranston, R.I./La Salle Academy) had four. Senior Nicole Talcott (Colchester, Vt./Rice Memorial Prep) denied 30 shots from the Bengals.
