COLCHESTER, Vt. - With the conclusion of the Purple Knight challenge last week, the Saint Michael's College Department of Athletics and Department of Institutional Advancement want to thank all donors for their overwhelming participation toward the inaugural friendly fundraising competition. Due to their generosity, more than 1,700 gifts were made toward a total of nearly $66,000 between all 21 varsity athletic programs.
The two teams that received the most gifts also were baseball and women's soccer, and each claimed an additional $500 for their programs. The Challenge, which ran between Oct. 11 and 25, saw baseball, Alpine skiing and women's soccer jockey for position on the leader board over a frantic final few hours, often swapping spots before Alpine skiing ultimately placed third.
In terms of top dollar figures, men's lacrosse led the way with $12,375, followed by baseball ($11,577), men's soccer ($7,011), women's soccer ($6,145) and Alpine skiing ($5,666). Fourteen programs earned more than $1,000 to aid their student-athletes' experiences.
