COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College Department of Athletics presents highlights from the 2016-17 school year, continuing with the winter seasons.

November 19, 2016 – Women's swimming & diving wins the North Country Invitational for the second time in three years, while the men take their second straight runner-up finish. Senior Lindsay McNall wins six events, and junior Theresa Murphy and first-year Lauren Giampietro claim three apiece. Sophomore Pat Thornton's two wins pace the men. Women's basketball earns its second win in 18 years at Assumption, 81-78 in overtime, behind junior Leah Spencer's 23 points. Senior Indira Evora, who reaches 1,000 career points on February 15, forces overtime with a late three. [ Highlights ]

November 22, 2016 – Women's basketball upsets 23rd-ranked Saint Anselm, 62-57, as junior Leah Spencer nets 18 points and sophomore Samantha Delaney posts 14 points and 11 rebounds. [ Highlights ]

December 2, 2016 – Men's ice hockey downs No. 12 Babson, 4-2, for its first win over a ranked team in 13 years. Senior Danny Divis scores twice, and classmate Anthony Maiuri nets the game-winner. Sophomore Chris Johnson makes 29 saves. [ Divis' First Goal | Complete Highlights ]

January 10, 2017 – Senior Matt Bonds (25 points, 15 rebounds, 8 steals) caps a frenzied final few seconds of men's basketball's 62-61 overtime win at Pace by hitting the winning free throw. [ Highlights ]

January 14, 2017 – Men's swimming & diving downs SUNY Potsdam, 128-97, for the first time in eight years behind three wins apiece from junior Spencer Ralston, sophomore Pat Thornton and first-year Connor Hopkins. [ Highlights ]

January 20, 2017 – Senior Erin Dwyer scores twice as women's ice hockey downs Castleton, 5-2. Senior Tina Frasca makes 36 saves. [ Highlights ]

January 21, 2017 – Junior Leah Spencer nets 30 points as women's basketball downs Saint Rose, 73-51. Sophomores Samantha Delaney (12) and Emily Ferreri (11) also reach double figures. [ Highlights ] Junior Emma Barnes paces Nordic skiing in both events at Saint Lawrence, including taking 38th in the classic race. Senior Torin La Liberte and sophomore Aaron Deeter each top the men once.

January 24, 2017 – Senior Matt Bonds becomes the third men's basketball player at the College with 1,000 career rebounds while totaling 20 points and 14 boards in a 66-63 comeback win at New Haven. He will later reach 1,500 points on February 18. [ Highlights ]

January 28, 2017 – First-year Arianna Boscia ties a school record with four assists, and women's ice hockey down Nichols, 8-2. Senior Tori Hubbard has three points, and classmate Athena Akiki scores twice. [ Highlights ]

February 4, 2017 – Men's Alpine skiing wins an event – the slalom – for the first time in modern EISA history at the UVM Carnival, thanks to junior Mathias Grimsrud and sophomores Danny Duffy and Guillaume Grand all placing among the top six. The women are fourth, as first-year Anna Willassen places 14th. Sophomore Liam Schmelzle leads the Nordic squad with a 38th-place showing in the freestyle, senior Torin La Liberte is 45th in the classic, and sophomore Amy Duclos paces the women during both disciplines. Men's basketball upsets No. 24 Southern New Hampshire, 84-81, behind senior Matt Bonds' 28 points and 21 rebounds. Classmate David Sullivan (16) and sophomore Derek Cheatom (17) also score in double figures. [ Highlights ]

February 11, 2017 – Sophomore Guillaume Grand is fourth in the Dartmouth slalom, helping men's Alpine skiing take third. First-year Anna Willassen is sixth in the GS to help the women place fourth.

February 18, 2017 – Men's ice hockey knocks off Stonehill, 4-1, in an NE10 Championship semifinal. Sophomores lead the way, as Sam D'Antuono posts a goal and two assists, Jack Ouellette has a goal and a helper, and Chris Johnson makes 32 saves. [ Highlights ]

February 19, 2017 – Senior swimmer Lindsay McNall caps an NE10 championship that sees her win the 100 and 200 backstroke titles. McNall, who won her 100th career race on January 29, breaks the NE10 Championship record in the 200 backstroke.

February 25, 2017 – Sophomore Liam Schmelzle leads Nordic skiing twice at the EISA Championship, including nabbing 37th in the freestyle race. Junior Emma Barnes and sophomore Amy Duclos each top the women in one event. Men's ice hockey competes in its third NE10 Championship title game in four years but falls to Assumption, 3-2, in overtime. Sophomore Colin Biebel scores twice and classmate Chris Johnson makes 27 saves. [ Highlights ]

February 27, 2017 – Junior Jillian Witwicki scores the winning goal with 7.3 seconds left in women's ice hockey's 3-2 triumph at Southern Maine.

March 10, 2017
– Sophomore Guillaume Grand becomes the first two-time All-America skier in College history, taking 10th in the NCAA Championship slalom. Junior Mathias Grimsrud is 15th and first-year Anna Willassen 27th. As the first Saint Michael's swimmer to compete at an NCAA Championship, senior Lindsay McNall becomes the first All-American by taking 15th in the 100 backstroke.

April 7, 2017 – Men's ice hockey seniors Danny Divis and Justin McKenzie are named the first co-winners of the prestigious Hockey Humanitarian Award, thanks in part to them founding mental health awareness movement Hope Happens Here. [ Award Ceremony ]
