COLCHESTER, Vt. - Coventry native Hannah Piette was hired as the Saint Michael's College Athletic Communications intern for the 2017-18 school year, it was announced on Thursday. A recent graduate of Lyndon State College, Piette will be the 13th intern to serve in the position since it was established in 2005. She begins her duties at the College on Aug. 21.
In her role with Athletic Communications, Piette will assist with all publicity and media relations facets for the College's 21 NCAA Division II intercollegiate varsity sports programs. She will work alongside the director of athletic communications in many media relations initiatives, and also aid in the College's social media endeavors. Piette will complete her nine-month internship in May 2018.
Piette was involved in numerous operations of the Lyndon State Athletic Department during each of her four undergraduate years. During spring 2017, she completed an internship in the Sports Information Department, serving as the primary contact for the fledgling women's lacrosse program, to cap a three-year stint with the event staff. In that time, Piette was charged with maintaining statistics and producing press releases for a variety of teams, while overseeing and leading members of a student staff.
During her junior and senior years, Piette also performed a coaching internship with the Lyndon State men's basketball team, with duties including practice and game day operations in addition to film breakdown. As a first-year and sophomore, Piette was the student coordinator for Lyndon State's NCAA CHOICES Grant, which addresses substance abuse on college campuses. For her first three years, she worked with her alma mater's Community Service Learning ASSIST club, working as secretary and treasurer at different junctures. The club volunteered with such organizations as Habitat for Humanity and the American Red Cross, and planned fundraisers.
Piette earned her bachelor's degree in sports leadership in May and also has an associate's degree in business administration. While completing minors in coaching and marketing, she graduated Summa Cum Laude and was inducted into the Alpha Lambda Delta honor society.
